- greetings from cambodia!
time here is an hour behind home's.
i have time to update cause school ends at around 4 for the kids and am waiting for dinner time.
- siem reap and phnom penh wasn't as backward as i thought it would.
siem reap was much better tho.
the hotel is in the city area with lots of bars, pubs and restaurants.
it's like a Holland V. just more choices.
- the kids at the orphanage are lovely.
even the older ones are so friendly.
just walk pass them, say HI and they're give you that smile with a HI back.
- took a van to phnom penh.
the ride there was 5hours, rocky roads bumping up and down.
on the way, i saw many villagers, how their home looks like (some are kampong, some on stilts) rice fields, cows and horses roaming around. the cows are damn skinny. like malnutrition or aneroxic.
- the roads' width is about 1.5 lanes of s'pore.
regardless of a tut tut, car, motorbike, you're like kings of the road.
as long as there is no on coming vehicle, you just travel on the reverse direction to overtake until you see a vehicle coming.
- at phnom penh, the roads were busy with locals and motorbikes.
our one night hotel was.. acceptable but not one you will wanna stay for your whole trip. then again, what more can you expect for USD$20 per night?
- we visited the casino to see see look look.
- left to head back to siem reap the next day. another 5 hours rocky ride.
- awesome hotel. so much more comfortable with complimentary breakfast.
- first day at the school with the kindergarden kids. introduction. some are villagers some are orphans, they have this smell on them i dont know how to describe. i was kinna held back from being too close to them. lunch was at a couple's (who started the whole orphanage and school there) home under a tree. vegetarian food, not too bad. joined by their son, adopted daughter and friend, volunteer from states.
- went for a full body massage at night. witnessed an accident by a car and a motorist. no one knows who was in the wrong cause it was a cross junction. i was told by the masseu that the motorist was brought to the police station. if the car owner gives money to the policeman, the motorist with be put to jail, which also means, even if the motorist wasn't at fault, the fault will be pushed to him. sigh
- second day (today) at school. taught them nursery rhymes, prepare them for the skit for NOAH'S ARK, painted masks. lunch today, 3 people from the states joined us, they were there to see how they can help out.
- food these few days have been awesome. good place, good food, good price. it's like a meal at a restaurant that cost ten twenty over dollars cost only at most USD$7. so, we've been enjoying every meal.
