TOPIC: LISTENING SKILLS
i think it's quite inspiring (is that the right word?).
"concentrating is hard work"
the diference between the rate at which most people talk (120 to 150 words a minute) and the rate at which the brain can process language (400 to 800 words a minute). as a result "we are tempted to interrupt our listening by thinking of other things."
listening too hard - soaking up a speaker's every word and thereby missing the key point.
jumping to conclusion- by putting words into a speaker's mouth
"putting words into a person's mouth is one reason why we sometimes communicate so poorly with people we are closest to us. because we are so sure we know what they mean, we dont listen to what they actually say. sometimes we dont even hear them out."
"giving undivided attention to a speaker in a genuine effort to understand the speaker's point of view."
"setting aside one's prejudices, frames of reference and desires so as to experience as far as possible the speaker's world from the inside."
i think it implies to ANY ONE of us.
let's start learning.
